There are differences in senior healthcare living arrangements. The three most common options are independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. Before making any decisions regarding relocating, it’s important to note these differences.

Independent Living:
A residential living setting for elderly or senior adults that may or may not provide hospitality or supportive services. The senior adult leads an independent lifestyle that requires minimal or no extra assistance.

Assisted Living:
Provides relatively independent seniors with supervision, assistance and limited health care services in a home-like atmosphere. Residents generally rely on assistance with one or more activities of daily living (ADLs)*.

Nursing Facility:
Provides 24-hour around-the-clock skilled nursing care for the more acute patients. Patients generally rely on assistance for most or all activities of daily living (ADLs)*.

*ADLs include: Eating, Bathing, Grooming, Dressing, Mobility and Bathroom Assistance.
